Vibert Box Planting Pending
We are playing the waiting game right now. An order of Bonneville Cutthroat trout eggs is pending. We will get a few days notice when they are on their way to Arkansas and bam! we’ll have to move fast to get them planted in the river.
Our goal is to plant 100 Vibert boxes – 50 in Bull Shoals C & R, 50 in Rim Shoals C & R this spring. Each box will have 500 trout eggs. That’s 50,000 eggs.
The White River chapter of TU has had this exciting project simmering for two years. High water for the past two spring seasons has prevented us from starting, but it looks like 2012 is it. This is a 5 year egg planting project to encourage a spring spawn.
The Bonneville cutthroat, also known as the Bear River cutthroat, prefer gravel-bottomed creeks and small rivers as well as lakes. It is well known for its ability to survive in harsh and often degraded (by man) habitats.
Friends of the Rivers has their annual Crooked Creek Clean-Up and Crawfish Boil scheduled for Sunday, June 3rd.
A half-day float trip with Ben Levin as tour guide starts at 10:30 a.m. The boil is scheduled for 6:00 at the Fred Berry pavillion in Yellville. David Lemoine is chef, Carnes and the Heaters will provide musical entertainment. Duane Hada is donating a plein-air watercolor for raffle.

Nabors Landfill Tax Petition
There is a petition being circulated by a small group of concerned citizens trying to protect our landfill. One of them, Tommy Snow, came to our May member meeting asking for signatures. The goal of the petition is to have a special election for Baxter County to let voters decide whether the county should purchase the landfill near Midway. The landfill is currently owned by a 6 county solid waste district (Baxter, Boone, Carroll, Marion, Newton and Searcy).

The group is looking for help canvassing for signatures. Contact Bill Willett at 870-421-0047 for more information.
